Ah, Santiago Chile, the New York City of South America. Bienvenidos!
My arrival Monday morning was one of excitement and tired depression, as I met my friends, my hosts, and left behind my relatively new little world in New Jersey. The combined flights from LaGuardia airport, to Houston TX and on to Santiago was a 15 hour adventure in learning how to be comfortable in seats that do not recline so well. Being used to moving around and doing yoga asana/ postures, I felt cramped and confined the whole way. I often thought about how many of the passengers were able to sit for such long periods and wondered how, perhaps, in their daily lives there had grown accustomed to sitting.
Arriving in Santiago for the first time was most definitely enjoyable and a memorable event. The flight that I was on was US Airways maiden, non-stop service, from Houston to Santiago. We were greeted in the traditional fashion by having fire trucks shoot an arch of water over the plane as we taxied into the terminal. What a welcome!
